Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age. We have seen a tremendous increase in adult patients in recent years. In fact, today, more than one out of five orthodontic patients is an adult.
The tissues involved in the movement of teeth in children and adults are the same. The major difference between adult and child orthodontic treatment is in the fact that growth is occurring in children.
Many of our adults want to do something for themselves and find that the change in their appearance has enhanced both their self confidence and self esteem.
Although a nice smile is important, improving the health of your gums and teeth is equally important. Adults generally choose to have treatment to:
- Enhance their appearance
- Correct a "bad bite"
- Close spaces
- Reduce tooth wear
- Prepare for implants/bridges
- Bring in impacted teeth
- Help correct jaw size problems in conjunction with jaw surgery
Spaces between the teeth, protruding front teeth, tipping of teeth into a space that was not kept open after premature extraction or the loss of tooth and teeth that for any reason have moved into abnormal position all can be helped by adult orthodontics.
The health benefit of orthodontics is often the primary consideration for adult treatment. Teeth can be cleaned more easily if they are straight and wear is often reduced.
The new techniques and materials we use have greatly reduced the discomfort level, decreased the frequency of visits, shortened treatment times and have become more unobstrusive.
We utilise translucent (clear) braces, high-tech Titanium metal braces and Invisalign®.
